Briefly Brno, Visit to Vienna, and Sleepless in Sleepcar

Today is designated a travel day,  which gets to continue to tomorrow since our next long destination is Napoli. We checked out of our hotel after a quick breakfast and packing up and headed to Brno for a quick looksie around the castle. 
Fortifications were found on the way up the steep hill to the main castle. Even only halfway up,  the view of the city was magnificent. 
Unfortunately, with the heat, low sleep, and lower tolerance, I didn't make it all the way up, but Steve and Xavier did! 
After our walkies, we found our way to our train to Vienna. Enroute to Vienna, Xavier made friends with a super sweet couple from Sweden who were backpacking across Europe,  Vienna as their next destination. Xavier bonded with his new friend by talking non-stop about comic book characters and the super sweet guy obliged.
And had a few hours to kill looking around at the historic palace grounds (now art museum).
We had a leisurely dinner across the street at a Greek and Viennese restaurant, had WAY too much food,  great alcohol, and the most adorable Greek papa waiter in the entire world. 
We made our way can to the train station
And eventually our train for rest and travel to Venezia, where we expect to transfer to another train to get us to Napoli.

Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli and Napoli

Today was SUPPOSED to be a "light" day,  though I think Steve and I have different definitions of "light". We started with a light breakfast outside of the hotel and visited Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli.  The museum is in what was I've a 17th century palace,  inhabited by a ruler who only cared to show off his status and wealth by collecting and displaying rare artifacts. He also had a "solar clock room", which was an expansive gallery room with a long mural ceiling where he had engaged mathematicians and astronomers to construct a working zodiac clock that would tell the time of the year by the sun's position at local noon every day. Unfortunately,  due to timing and cloud cover, we did not get to see the marvel,  though the room was still impressive.  Pompeii artifacts including mosaics and musical instruments.  At the metro stop, we came across an impressive statue that left Xavier giggling.  And then we continued on by me...

Travel Day: Train to Rome, Train to Civitavecchia, then Overnight Ferry!

We started with a hotel breakfast,  etch was an. .. interesting affair. They far a tortilla,  which looked like tortilla  Española,  except... pasta. I has giggles,  and then disappointment.  And on to the train station!  Here we go to Rome! (Briefly,  only have a 1/2 hour connection to get to our Civitavecchia train.) We,  uh, missed our connection in Rome. And melted a wheel off one of the suitcases (and burned Steve's hand trying to fix it) trying to make it. But,  eventually,  we did make it on a train going to Civitavecchia. All is good,  I have been reunited with paprika Pringles. Mmmmm. Dinner in Civitavecchia, and a view that certainly doesn't suck. Got to our ferry, and tucked into our noon-air conditioned cabin for the night. Au last we had a view of the sea from our room.

AND WE'RE OFF

Getting to the airport with plenty of time to spare keeps me from getting too stressed out, and it also makes it so we hit Burgerville to make sure the child will actually eat lunch and not get hangry somewhere over the mountains. So,  imagine my surprise when we did just that.  Boarding is in about 1/2 hour and I'm ready for my first drink.  Next stop,  Amsterdam!
