Pompeii, Vesuvius, and Room Service Because I Can't Move Anymore

Today was an early start to catch a train to Pompeii for a tour of the ruins. EEEEEEE. Well,  after a comedic series of errors starring Google, we got on a train,  discovered it was the wrong one,  got off and waited for the right one,  got to our transfer point, only to discover our fare didn't cover the train we needed to be on,  and it was too late to find alternative transportation because our tour was scheduled,  so we payed new far, and made a Canadian friend on the train who knew super hero movies and had Xavier fully engaged for the entire trip.

Arrived in Pompeii just in time,  and oh my goodness was there sun to be had. Our tour guide, Francesco, was amazing and incredibly patient with Xavier,  and worked hard to keep him invested in the trip while also still keeping Steve and me interested and informed. It really was fantastic.
My Dawgs were DONE  after 3 hours of going through the ruins, and even up an overlook scaffolding to view current excavations. Pompeii, despite being discovered a couple of hundred years ago,  is only a portion excavated even today,  and research is ongoing.

We grabbed a quick lunch near the archeological site and after assume shopping, Xavierwas gifted a pack of Pompeii pictures by a sweet Italian shopkeeper, then grabbed a tour bus with the company Around Vesuvio to head up to Mt. Vesuvius. I'll say this for Italian drivers: they're made of different stuff. PHEW.
Steve and Xavier attempted the summit, but I Was DONE. So much sun,  and so much heat,  and so much walking. The views, I'm sure were breathtaking, but I hit my limit and didn't force myself past. So, I found some shade and grabbed my eReader, and was joined by a mother and her adult daughter from The Netherlands just chatting about our respective trips.

What the what? I was social with strangers?  I think it's an Italy thing.

We all decided we were done and were going to find a sooner transport off the mountain to get back to Napoli and the hotel. The tour company told us they had another bus leaving soon that goes straight to Napoli that had room and were happy to transfer us to that. They're heroes.

A little souvenir shopping earned me a shot of limoncello (never turn that shit down) from a boisterous Italian  (god I love this country) and we eventually made it back to our hotel for room service pizza and wine.
